Each year, astronomy expos and conferences bring together amateur astronomers, industry professionals, and space enthusiasts from around the world. These events are a chance to connect with others who share your passion for the night sky, attend talks by astronauts and leading experts, and learn about everything from deep-sky imaging to the latest space missions. Many of these conferences also feature large exhibit halls filled with telescope manufacturers, software developers, and accessory makers—giving you hands-on access to the newest gear and a chance to speak directly with the people behind it.
🌌 Notable Astronomy Expos & Conferences
While there used to be many astronomy expos and conferences across the country, the number has declined in recent years. Today, only a handful remain active—but they continue to offer incredible opportunities to connect, learn, and explore the latest in astronomy and astrophotography. These days, many vendors are more likely to attend large regional star parties, which often include talks and equipment showcases alongside observing.
Suffern, NY – The largest consumer astronomy expo in the U.S. with vendors, solar viewing, and expert speakers.
Held just prior to NEAF – Offers intensive astrophotography workshops and tech sessions.
Location varies annually – National-level talks, awards, tours, and outreach hosted by the Astronomical League.
Florida Keys – Combines observing with vendor booths and daytime talks in a tropical setting.
Fort Davis, TX – Offers observing, gear vendors, and lectures from amateur and professional astronomers.
Kenton, OK – A high-quality observing event with guest speakers and some vendor presence.
San Jose, CA – No longer occurs on annual basis but entire archive is available for review.
Hickory, NC – Hosted by the Catawba Valley Astronomy Club, featuring lectures and networking.
Pennsylvania – While primarily an observing event, it often includes pre-party workshops and vendor visits.
